Nathanael Greene played Division I lacrosse at the University of New Hampshire, where he was a two-time All-America East selection and served as team captain in his senior year. He spent four years coaching at the club and high school level in New Hampshire before completing an M.S. in Athletic Administration at Springfield College — one of the country’s most respected programs in the field — and joining the Clarebourne athletics staff as an assistant director in 2007. He was appointed Director of Athletics in 2012.

In his tenure Clarebourne has expanded from eleven varsity sports to seventeen, added the Middle School athletics program in its current form, introduced the JV tier across all major team sports, and built the coaching staff from nine to twenty-two. He considers none of these the achievement he is most proud of. That distinction belongs to the athletics requirement — the policy that every Clarebourne student participates in sport every season — which he proposed to Thea Francis Green in his first year as director and has defended, with considerable evidence, ever since.

He coaches the varsity lacrosse program in the spring. He has no plans to stop.

“The students who get the most out of our athletics program are almost never the ones who arrived as the best athletes. They are the ones who arrived uncertain of themselves and discovered, somewhere in the middle of a difficult season, that they were tougher than they thought. That discovery is what I am here for.”
