Leadership

Meet the people accountable for what we promise.

Head of school

“We are preparing our students to encounter the world’s hardest questions. A student who has wrestled with the ideas of Thucydides, Toni Morrison, and Euclid will draw from those experiences to make a meaningful contribution.”

Thea Francis Green came to Clarebourne after fourteen years in independent school education — first as a classics teacher at Ashford Country Day School in Connecticut, then as Upper School Dean at the Pemberton Academy in Philadelphia, where she redesigned the humanities curriculum around primary source inquiry and the Harkness method. She holds a B.A. in Classical Civilizations from the University of Virginia and an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Columbia University’s Teachers College.

Administrative team

Our administrative team and faculty are the custodians of the Clarebourne mission.

Academic leadership

Our educators and division leaders are deeply engaged in guiding students to explore the limits of their capabilities. They form a community of colleagues who approach their work with commitment and intellectual curiosity. The average Clarebourne faculty member who reaches five years stays for fourteen.

“What I want students to leave with is the ability to read a document from 1789 or 1933 and understand what it was arguing, who it was arguing against, and why it mattered. That skill transfers to everything.”

Want to meet our faculty in person? The best introduction to Clarebourne’s teachers is a visit. Shadow days include time in two or three classes with faculty across divisions.
