John Kensett joined Clarebourne’s admissions office in 2016 after five years at the Gordon School in East Providence, where he served as admissions coordinator with a focus on outreach to under-resourced communities and first-generation independent school families. He holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Rhode Island and an M.Ed. in Educational Policy from Brown University.
At Clarebourne he manages the Middle School admissions process, coordinates the shadow day program, and leads the school’s partnership with regional access organizations including A Better Chance. He conducts a significant majority of Middle School student interviews and is known among families for follow-up conversations that are more candid than they expected.
“Families often come in expecting to be managed through a process. What I try to do instead is give them the information they need to make a genuine decision — even information that might lead them somewhere else.”
